The Adelaide Independent and Cabinet to Amusement

Bruce Herald

Birth, marriage and death notices were copied from original copies of the Bruce Herald held at the Hocken Library, Univeristy of Otago, Dunedin. The Bruce Herald was first published in November 1864 and is still being published today. It is published in Milton, Tokomairiro, Otago, New Zealand. Originally the newspaper was published weekly until the end of 1872 from which time it was published twice weekly. Copies of the Bruce Herald are also held online at www.paperspast.natlib.govt.nz.

Colonial Magazine Commercial-Maritime Journal can be found online at the Australian National Library's website www.nla.gov.au. It contains the births, marriages and deaths of people in the HEICo, the British Army, British Navy, and colonial settlers in the West Indies, Canada and Australia.

Dunstan Times

Birth, marriage and death notices were copied from original copies of the Dunstan Times held at the Hocken Library, Univeristy of Otago, Dunedin. The Dunstan Times was published in Clyde, Otago, New Zealand. The Dunstan District Hospital, which is often mentioned in the Death Notices, was based in the Otago township of Clyde.

Evening Post

Births, marriage, death notices and inquests were copied from microfiche held at Porirua Public Library. The Evening Post was published in Wellington, New Zealand. It commenced in February 1865 and was amalgamated into the DomPost early in the 21st Century.

Hawke's Bay Herald

Information was copied from the microfiche copies of this newspaper held at Napier Publical Library in New Zealand and their collection begins in 1877.

Inangahua Times

Information was copied from the National Library of New Zealand's website www.paperspast.natlib.govt.nz. The Inangahua Times was published in Reefton, on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It commenced publication in 1875 and ceased in 1942. Initially it was issued three times a week. In 1891 it came out daily. Online coverage is presently from January 1877 to December 1900. The newspaper had regular columns about mining activities in the Reefton area. There are no copies of the Inangahua Times for 1879 online.

Naval Chronicle

The Auckland Museum Library and National Library of New Zealand hold some copies of The Naval Chronicle, which was issued by the Royal Navy in Britain and included birth, marriage and death notices of members of the Royal Navy, their families and other associated people.

New Zealand Advertiser and Bay of Islands Gazette

This was New Zealand's second earliest newspaper and was a forerunner to the Government Gazette as it was used by the colonial administration to publish official notices. The Advertiser was published in Kororareka weekly on a Thursday from June to December 1840 and ran for only twenty-seven issues. New Zealand Colonist and Port Nicholson Advertiser

The Oamaru Times/North Otago Times

This newspaper was known originally as The Oamaru Times & Waitaki Reporter and was printed Thursday mornings at Oamaru, North Otago, New Zealand until 28 August 1866 The Oamaru Times. From 6 October 1874 it was published tri-weekly Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and from 1 Janaury 1876 it was published daily. Births, marriage and death notices from January 1864 to November 1867 were copied from original newspapers held at the Dunedin Public Library, Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. From December 1876 they were copied from the National Library of New Zealand's website www.paperspast.natlib.govt.nz

This newspaper began publication in 1861 in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand and is still being published as a daily newspaper today. When the words "of this city" appear in a notice they are referring to the city of Dunedin in the province of Otago, in the South Island of New Zealand. The births, marriage and death notices from this newspaper were copied from the National Library and General Assembly Library microfilms held at the Dunedin Public Libary, Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand.

The newspaper was first published in November 1876 in Tapanui, Otago, New Zealand and is still being published today. It is published once a week on a Wednesday. When the words "of this town" appear in a notice from this newspaper they are referring to the town of Tapanui, in West Otago, New Zealand.

The Wakatipu Mail

This newspaper was published in Queenstown, Otago, New Zealand so when the words "of this town" appear in a notice they are referring to the Otago township of Queenstown in New Zealand. The Wakatipu Mail was published weekly on a Friday evening. Many of its early newspapers are missing or lost so the notices do not cover the full period from 1863-1900. Wellington Tribune

Births, marriages and deaths were copied from the original newspapers held at the Hocken Library, University of Otago, Dunedin. The newspapers were known under the names of Daily Tribune, Tribune and Evening Tribune. They have been bound together by the Hocken Library and are known under the collective name of Wellington Tribune. The newspapers were published in Wellington so when the words "of this city" appear in a notice they are referring to the city of Wellington, New Zealand.

West Coast Times

The West Coast Times began as a weekly newspaper in May 1865 in Hokitika, Westland, New Zealand, just two months after the gold rush on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand was proclaimed. The following year it became a daily newspaper. In 1917 the West Coast Times was absorbed into the Hokitika Guardian and Star, which ceased publication in 1988.
